I would like to make some suggestions that will help you to use this important resource and maximise its effectiveness. PMR should be considered a tool to assist you in your teaching. As with all tools, unless they are used effectively, their cost and efficiency are wasted.
:: Step 1
Establish the title of your theme. The content of each episode of PMR is described in this introduction booklet. Each episode has the potential to represent several themes. The theme for episode 2 is "Speak Carefully". This episode could also represent "Dealing with Anger", "Relationships", "A Perception is not Truth", or "Listening to Wise Counsel". After viewing an episode, you can fit your own theme to the storyline. We have listed a number of themes for each episode to get you started.
:: Step 2
Establish where you will position the episode in your service. This is important, and should be prayerfully considered.
:: Here are some suggestions
| ::1 Consider placing it immediately before the speaker for the day. If it is used here, the speaker should make some opening comment that links PMR to the teaching theme. |
| ::2 Consider placing it immediately before the speaker for the day,
but introduce it with a short testimony that precedes PMR. |
| ::3 Consider placing it immediately before the speaker for the day, but introduce it with a bible passage that highlights the issue that is presented in PMR. |
| ::4 Consider using PMR before a vocal item that is before the teaching. This creates a package consisting of a PMR episode, a vocal item, and a teaching/message. |
| ::5 Consider placing it during the course of the teaching. For example if the speaker is focusing on "Listening to Wise Counsel", he/she can insert it after making a point like "there is a right and wrong way to advise people when they are wrong. Here is an example of the right way". |
| ::6 Consider placing it at the end of the teaching for the day with introductory comments like "Is it possible to give advice to a friend in a sensitive way? The Bible says it is, and here is an illustration of how to do it right". If you have a gifted vocalist who could insert a sensitive song that helps the theme and allows the listeners to assimilate the message, it would be appropriate to include that here. |
:: Final Comments
From experience we have learned that including PMR after the announcements or after some other unrelated activity minimises the potential of the resource to impact lives. We have also learned that regular comment to different aspects of the content of PMR during the course of a message is very effective, as it immediately helps to draw a picture in the mind of the listener.
